Dear Kathy,
I recently
returned from Washington, DC, where I was invited to give two briefings,
one to a group of pro-life Congressmen and another to a group of
Congressional staff. The topic of both talks was "How Pro-Lifers Can Win:
Three Keys to Victory." Congressman Trent Franks of Arizona and Bethany
Barker, his Press Secretary, were most gracious in hosting the event and
helping me find my way around the Capitol area. Special thanks to Bryan
McKinney, long-time CBR volunteer, for taking a day off work to help me carry
all of my equipment (projector, sound system, laptop, etc.) and keep me from
getting lost.
I really enjoyed the chance to meet Cong. Franks. He is one of the most committed pro-lifers in DC, and he traces his own commitment to the pro-life cause to a video of abortion he saw many years ago. Not surprising. These pictures really do work. I expect we will hear more from Cong. Franks in the future!
For the staff briefing, I was the only speaker, but for the Congressional briefing, I shared the program with Phil Kline (former Attorney General of Kansas) and Jill Stanek (nurse who blew the whistle on an Illinois hospital that allows already-delivered children to die without medical care). In attendance were such notables as Cong. Duncan Hunter, former candidate for President, and Cong. David Davis of Tennessee. Paul Fassbender of Sen. Corker's office also came by to lend moral support, which I appreciated.
Perhaps
the most important outcome of the event was helping these influential leaders
understand how the use of graphic images is a critical component of
every social reform movement of the past 150 years of American history.
These people can, in turn, influence others. We especially want them to
influence their financial backers, many of whom are also pro-life, to support
this work. When we first started doing GAP a few years back, I remember some
people saying that using pictures of abortion would cause us to lose standing
among influential politicians. "If we show pictures, politicians won't eat
our lunch," or something like that. As it has turned out, I've found
pro-life political people to be among the first to embrace our strategic use
of graphic abortion images. Perhaps they have a greater appreciation of the
evil we are up against. Also, they understand what it will take to change
public opinion on a mass scale.
I need to let you know that my trip to DC represented an unbudgeted cost of a little over $1000 (air travel, rental car, hotel, etc.). If you can help with a one-time gift of $60, $120, or $250, it would mean a lot. To do this online, click here.
Another way of changing hearts and minds on a consistent basis is through a convenient monthly bank, credit card, or debit card transfer. Automatic giving is convenient for you and it reduces our cost (a lot). Would you consider a monthly investment of $30, $60, $120, or $240?

Thank you so much for investing in the lives of others.
Please take a moment and e-mail this to just one of your pro-life friends.
Thank you,
Fletcher

Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering
toward slaughter. If you say, "But we knew nothing about this," does
not He Who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not He Who guards your
life know it? Will He not repay each person according to what he has
done? -- Proverbs 24:11-12 (NIV)
