Fellay: "I have already written a response and we will see how Rome
will react" |
Archbishop Burke appointed to head Vatican ‘Supreme Court’
In his new position, Archbishop Burke will serve as
the head of the Church’s supreme tribunal, which ensures that justice
is correctly administered.
Also known as the Church’s Supreme Court, the Tribunal also oversees
the administration of justice within the Church, examining
administrative matters referred to it by the Congregations of the
Roman Curia, as well as questions committed to it by the Holy Father. |
Archbishop
Burke Named Prefect of the Apostolic Signatura
While it is understandable that
Catholics in the Archdiocese of Saint Louis and in the United States
in general will feel this as a loss, it is consoling to think of the
positive influence Archbishop Burke will be able to exert in Rome,
where he will be without a doubt elevated to the Sacred College of
Cardinals at the next Consistorium. |

France's Cardinal Barbarin on How Denial of the
Eucharist Can be an Act of Love
"Normally
every act of the Church is an act of charity," Cardinal Barbarin told
LifeSiteNews.com last week. "Every word of Jesus is a word of
charity. Yet, at times Jesus was angry. He took cords and knocked
down the change tables and chased the sellers from the temple -
solely for His love for them." |
Vatican: Receiving Eucharist kneeling will be norm at papal liturgies
While current norms allow the faithful
to receive the Eucharist in the hand while standing, Pope Benedict
XVI has indicated a preference for the more traditional practice,
said Msgr. Guido Marini, master of papal liturgical ceremonies.
Kneeling and receiving Communion on the tongue highlights "the truth
of the real presence (of Christ) in the Eucharist, helps the devotion
of the faithful and introduces the sense of mystery more easily," he
said in a June 26 interview with the Vatican newspaper, L'Osservatore
Romano. |

Bishops need humility, Pope says
In his
"Pastoral Rule," St. Gregory sketched a portrait of an ideal bishop,
who would be an effective preacher, teacher, and example to his
flock. Pope Benedict said that his predecessor realized how "pastors
have to recognize their own poverty, so that pride does not make the
good achieved ineffective in the eyes of the supreme Judge." |

Planned Parenthood's Obscene Profits
In April,
the annual report for
Planned Parenthood Federation of America revealed that the
abortion giant had a total income of
$1.02 billion — with reported profits of nearly
$115 million. Taxpayers kick in more than
$336 million worth of
government grants and contracts at both the state and federal
levels. That's a third of Planned Parenthood's budget. |

Catholic College finishes its first year
The students, who finished their final exams on
Thursday, have taken Latin immersion classes and read some of the
masterpieces of Western literature. They have also learned leadership
and survival skills and horsemanship on wilderness trips made to
observe nature, which college officials call “God’s first book,”
according to the Casper Star Tribune. |

Traditionalists wait for Vatican ruling
While the
curia under Pope John Paul II had opposed attempts to bring Anglicans
en masse into the Roman Catholic fold, under Benedict XVI the Vatican
appears to have adopted a different line. Anglicans wishing to be
received into the Catholic Church are welcome to do so, as
individuals, rather than as part of a larger ecclesial body. The
talks between TAC and Vatican , however, have focused on allowing
whole groups to enter the Catholic Church while maintaining their own
orders and liturgy. |

Atheist Game Asks Players To Kill Prophets
Atheists
have never really had anything to speak for them like this. It’s the
general atheist premise that the world might be a better place
without some of those religions... It’s the idea of being able to go
back in time and sort of nipping the problem in the bud. |

The Audacity of Death
As an
Illinois state senator, Barack Obama twice opposed legislation to
define as "persons" babies who survive late-term abortions. Babies
like Gianna. Mr. Obama said in a speech on the Illinois Senate floor
that he could not accept that babies wholly emerged from their
mother's wombs are "persons," and thus deserving of equal protection
under the Constitution's 14th Amendment. |
Disease-free designer babies with DNA from three
parents 'could be here within three years'
The controversial technique screens an
embryo created by a man and a woman for incurable genetic
diseases.
Any defective DNA is then replaced with
that from another woman - effectively giving the baby two
mothers and a father.

Cardinal George orders embattled Rev. Pfleger to take a hiatus:
Defiant Pfleger goes grudgingly
While
respecting his disagreement, I have nevertheless asked him to use
this opportunity to reflect on his recent statements and actions in
the light of the Church's regulations for all Catholic priests. I
hope that this period will also be a time away from the public
spotlight and for rest and attention to family concerns. |
Barack Obama Claims He’s Not Pro-Abortion Despite Overwhelming Record
Obama has also come under fire for twice working to
prevent a bill in the Illinois state legislature from going to the
governor that would have allowed for appropriate medical care when
newborn infants survive failed abortions. The bill came after Chicago
nurse Jill Stanek discovered cases of infanticide following botched
abortions. |

Cardinal Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone.

Catholic Obama supporter denied Communion
His sin? Kmiec, a Catholic who can cite
papal pronouncements with the facility of a theological scholar,
shocked old friends and adversaries alike earlier this year by
endorsing Barack Obama for president. For at least one priest,
Kmiec's support for a pro-choice politician made him a willing
participant in a grave moral evil. |
Priests
from Nebraska lead rite's resurgence of Latin Mass
Friday's service in the Lincoln cathedral was the ordination of four
Fraternity of St. Peter priests. They were ordained by Cardinal Dario
Castrillon Hoyos, head of the Vatican department that oversees
matters regarding the Latin Mass. His appearance in Lincoln was not
only a sign of the Nebraska seminary's importance to Rome, but also a
further symbol of encouragement from a pope seen as friendly to those
who love the Latin Mass.
Cardinal celebrates ordination Mass in Lincoln
The focus in the older form is on God, and on
the sanctity of the Mass itself, he said. The “new Mass,” by
contrast, has more emphasis on scripture reading and allows
expression of cultural differences, he said. |
